Week 17 in training – 52 miles of running and hiking at altitude. Highlights include 14ers! and the associated fun car camping, and a long run of 24 miles.
Week 7 training in the books – 30 miles on my feet this week, in the running and hiking variety. Plus some podcasts/books/music I’m enjoying.
The South Platte area is a giant granite playground located ~60 miles southwest of Denver. The adventure climbing is a highlight, and there are also many opportunities for hiking, fishing, and free camping. When the high Rockies [>10,000 feet] are still cold and snowed in this time of year, South Platte provides a fun shoulder-season escape!
Before heading home for Christmas, we went up with our friends to Estes Park, Colorado for a long weekend. Their family owns a home…
On September 28, 2016 Dan and I hiked Missouri Mountain. This 14er is one of the Collegiate Peaks located in the Sawatch Range of the Rocky Mountains.
Dan and I hiked Huron Peak on September 27, 2016. I really enjoyed this one – fall colors + a relatively easy ascent made for a great half-day hike.
On September 5, 2106 we hiked with our friends up Quandary Peak, which lies at 14,265 ft. It is the 13th highest peak in Colorado. It was our second time hiking Quandary – we hiked it once in winter conditions so the views and hiking experience were very different!
On September 2, 2016 we hiked with our friends up Mt. Princeton – a rocky hike that ended in a giant cloud.
If you are in the Denver area but don’t necessarily WANT to be in the Denver area, good news! You can go to the expensive-to-live-in Golden area. Think trail running, climbing, microbreweries, and food!
This weekend Dan and I went up to Steamboat Springs with another couple for a long weekend. We skied and ate jambalaya and played Durok and read Harry Potter. A perfect weekend.
